GC & Taylor Hicks interview.

As many of you know, the incredible Gray Charles got the Taylor Hicks interview that he wanted last night!

Thanks Manders, for letting me know. I had the fortune of being asleep and missed the conversation.

Thanks to Taylor, for taking the time to give the interview to a great man who has worked so hard to support you.

And thanks to GC, for many reasons. I’m so happy for you. I cannot thing of a more deserving person, and I cannot wait to read the interview when it is posted.

Be sure to check GrayCharles.com frequently and watch out for the interview. With GC asking the questions, it is sure to be a great one, if not the best ever.

Erinn – great link. I agree with snoopysoul that Ash could dedicate an entire thread to the documentary. As I’m sure you are aware, there is a website, too — which also mentions an available soundtrack. Perhaps you could email this information to her directly?

  2. double d says:

Thanks, OhGrayCharlesFan, I try….one of my useless talents…but it’s fun and I’m all about fun.

Regarding Country Roads….I don’t have a link (a GC no-no) but, he has said that he chose the song as a tribute to the W. VA. coal-miners who were killed in the Sago mine tragedy. On Regis he said that his great-grandfather was a coal miner and he wanted to do something to honor them.

I had heard and I believe that he was going to do Hank Jr.’s Country Boy Can Survive which has a line in it “we came from the W. VA coal mines, the rocky mountains, and the western skies”…but Hank Jr. got busted right before that and he might have been convinced not to go there….or it wasn’t cleared.

Anyhow, I think it’s unanimous that CR wasn’t the right choice for various reasons.

  3. Erinn the Red says:

    snoopysoul,

I really can’t say enough about that doc. It does a great job of explaining the industry as it is now versus thirty years ago and it still ends on a high note. Very well made and when the subject of Taylor’s music and his difficulties finding acceptance in the industry comes up it immediately reminds me of this doc. It will be touring this summer and if you get a chance go see it.

  4. MrsWOOTaylor says:

    Taygerl

Thanks for the belly laugh~good for the soul.

  5. OhGrayCharlesFan says:

Just wanted to say “Hi”! and thank you to Ash, and what a day…

Looks like one installment more, right?

Wwhhooo, what a pleasure to read such a great interview.
And Double D awesome rap on post #80, you are great at that! Thanks for sharing!

Also someone in GC’s comments on Interivew #1 said Taylor had explained his Country Roads story (elsewhere), and I have not seen that. Can anybody give me a link? Thank you, thank you!

  6. lostintexas says:

Thanks Gray for letting us know how much more there is. Eagerly anticipating the finale.

  7. Pamela says:

i really shouldn’t have slept! (or maybe i should just change countries!) lol

love reading thru this thread…funny funny repartee you guys!!

    Gray, you one helluva amazing!!

    Thanks again Ash!!

Dingo – i love that Taylor understands the ‘madness’ Gray went/ is going through!

  8. Gray Charles says:

Probably two more parts, maybe only 1 tonight.

  9. lostintexas says:

Thanks MacTwig. I just went over and it is loading very, very slowly but I did get to read it. It just keeps getting better and better. I wonder how many parts there will be. I can’t wait for the rest. Will probably have to go to bed before it is all posted.

  10. snoopysoul says:

    Erinn,

That is a great link. It would be a great post subject by itself.

  11. Chris (MacTwig) says:

Part IV is up … but very slow loading.

  12. Erinn the Red says:

I posted this info on another site, but have you all heard about the documentary “Before the Music Dies”? It is about what has happened to the music industry today and how real artists and songwriters are beig overlooked for the short term gain. An amazing array of artists collaborated with these guys and a super group was even formed – Funk Sway. I had the opportunity to see it at SXSW this year and it blew me away.

They finally have a trailer up at youtube:

  13. Maryqtpi says:

I don’t know how to thank you enough for putting this site up and keepin it real for all that love good music. Fabulous to have the connection you have with GC and the respect. Its another great site and I hope it goes well for you and doesnt bring you to the same place it did for GC. Such a talented guy getting his dues now and so selfless sharing with us all, Taylor.

“I’m so ferklempt. Talk among yourselves!”β™₯

  14. Kim says:

Gray is a classy guy. I was checking out the AI boards to see if they had caught whiff of the Taylor interview and noticed that GC was nice enough to post a couple of times on one of the threads about the interview. What a sweet guy. They were very appreciative over there and GC mentioned that Taylor wanted to talk to all his fans(paraphrased there a bit.)

  15. soullady says:

I just read part 3 up at the GC site and I’m even more impressed than I was before. I’m so happy Taylor chose a song like ‘Trouble’ and I’ve since watched RayLaMontagne perform on Austin City Limits and realized there were still performers and songwriters out there who remember what SONGS used to be like. Back in the 70’s we had Carole King and Joni Mitchell, Boz Scaggs, Billy Joel, Don McClean, James Taylor, and Bob Seger putting out all this great material and it made everyone better writers. And it breaks my heart that some of these artists are still recording and still writing new music and inspiring new artists, and they’ve been shunted off to the side and forced to record on all these independent labels that can’t promote effectively (or pay the radio corporations enough money in bribes to play their music, if you believe what the FCC is investigating).

If there was one point I could make to Taylor about Simon and Nigel, it would be this: they are a symptom of a bigger problem, dear soul. They’re not the problem itself. Being yourself will fight the power (to use the old Public Enemy song).

  16. Ash. says:

If you read this GC, THANKS SO MUCH! for coming and posting the interview here as well. It is much appreciated by all of us.

  17. TayTorTot says:

Help………..what’s wrong??? I can’t get on to Gray’s site. It says it’s under construction!!! Is it just me???????

  18. Gray Charles says:

    It’s back up, yikes.

    Deb Says:

    June 24th, 2006 at 4:23 pm
Oh oh, it’s getting to be around dinner time. I hope TH knows to come over here to feel the response. He’s going to laugh, when he see’s the β€œtrouble” he’s caused.

I hope so, too, Deb. Hasn’t this been a Hell of a Day!

  20. MissyLee says:

Ash, thank you for coming to our rescue so quickly – setting up this site and inviting us over. I’m very impressed with what you’ve done here.

  21. MissyLee says:

Wonder how many were trying to logon to GC and made the site crash. I hit refresh to read the thrid part and it went “poof”!

  22. Radiance says:

Man! I’m loving it. I love that Taylor talked about his strategy for getting the viewers’ attention, knowing this may be his biggest opportunity. Smart man, wouldn’t you say?

Loved this part, too: “Simon and Nigel don’t know crap about American music.” Taylor, me thinks you may be right.

Great job, GC. You da man!

  23. Phile says:

    katja Says: “I love this:
” My whole goal is to let people see about that music that’s real and not to let it slip. ”

That’s exactly what he has done!!!!”

Yeah. You’re right. But I think we’re all helping one another along now – from AI to TH to GC to Ash/Boogie to wherever else this journey is going to go. Music was my life for the longest time, but then I grew up. To my utter surprise it’s back, and I’m so very happy about it. If I could only age backwards from now on I should be all set!

I’m sorry we swamped your site, Gray. And thanks again Ash and everyone else.

  24. Taygerl says:

Taylor had never heard the Nigel interview where he whined about Taylor standing on stage singing β€œTrouble, Trouble, Trouble, Worry, Worry, Worry” and saying it wasn’t β€œhappy”

Oh, that just says it all, doesn’t it?
I can hear it now, it’s the night of the finale, and Toni Braxton is about to go onstage for her duet of ITG with Taylor. Nigel grabs her as she makes her way onstage, and whispers in her ear, ” Go on out there and make it a HAPPY SONG!”
    ; >

  25. azure says:

karen – The ping pong analogy was fabulous! Exactly how I felt, going back and forth, back and forth!

Robin – I love what and how you write. I’ve wanted to tell you that since the first post of yours I read. Then the day of the infamous thread, when everyone was going at each other, and you were taking a lot of undeserved crap, I was determined to post in your defense. The damn thread was moving so fast and I couldn’t keep up with comments. I got distracted, had to leave the computer, and when next I logged on, it was way too late to bring it all up again. I do remember feeling terrible that your feelings were hurt. It wasn’t too long after that, when I saw another post from you. You seemed okay, so I stopped worrying and figured that some day an appropriate time would present itself, and I’d mention that day to you. I don’t know if this is exactly the appropriate time, but it works for me!

You’re a wonderful writer, and you always have something positive to add to a topic. Your enthusiasm about “all things Taylor” is contagious. So, thank you for your past posts on GC, and wherever we all end up after this, I hope to be reading more from you!

  26. Clikee says:

After reading the amazing interview, it’s no wonder Taylor exuded such quiet confidence in everything he did during AI and after; he had a plan, and he was sticking to it. Kind of takes a specific kind of pressure off the course, because he knew what he wanted to accomplish, and how he was going to bring it all to fruition. Seems he knew what to sing, when and how, and knew when and where to shout out to the Soul Patrol. Takes total belief in oneself to comprehend you can and must win a thing, and do. I suppose if Taylor believed his strategy for winning so strongly, it would become second nature to plan what to do next after the first goal was reached. Perhaps that’s why this part of his journey has appeared so seamless.

Gray, I can’t thank you enough for posting the interview here, as we’ve temporarily injured your site, and Ash, thanks for having somewhere for Gray to post it!

  27. Katja, about the “How screwed up are you” thread. OMG I thought the same thing. He must have laughed his ass off if he skimmed through that one.

  28. dd, your amazing. That takes some talent it does. I couldnt do it. Way to go.

  29. Squeebee says:

Thanks Ash, for all your work, and thanks Gray for posting the interview here as well….much appreciated. Love hearing Taylor being Taylor….FINALLY!!!

  30. Maryqtpi says:

Goes to show again and again GC dedication to his fans. Thanks for posting here too in light of your fans bringing you down. Once again I am amazed. Thanks for bringing it here too. Nothing better than team work.

Taylor is honest. It pours out of his soul. Sure hope Hollywood doesnt destroy that in him. Its way too good a vertu and can easily be destroyed by the cruelty in the shallow Hollywood arena on your way up. Then again, its where Taylor needs to be. Its what he has worked and has dreamt of his whole life. Very very happy to have witnessed his rise, a extremely talented guy who totally deserves it. So good to see it all pay off. So good to be able to follow him and enjoy such a wonderful talent.

  31. Oh man Im loving this.

    >>β€œNigel and Simon don’t know crap about American music. They’ve been submersed in pop culture for so longer that they only care about what sells.”>>

Yep and Taylor got that early on. Thats why I love when he did PTFMWB and all the nuances he did within the song. When he came out and said GET UP! GET UP! Aaaaaaeeeeeeeee!!

And sauntered straight over to Simon looking him directly in the eyes while performing that song and of course the epitome of a showman, at the end sprawling himself all over that American Idol logo in the middle of the stage. That was pure genius.

  32. Karen says:

I am blown away (sorry, but I like that phrase ’cause it was praising Taylor) by the meat in this interview. What is wrong with almost every single interviewer up to this point…?

“Are you going to change your hair color, Taylor”
“Have you found your blond yet, Taylor?”
“How did you feel when Chris was kicked off, Taylor?”
“Do you know how proud of you they are back home, Taylor?”

Agh-h-h-h And now in one fell swoop, we get from Gray a kazillion great questions and answers in one phone call event ~ I get a real sense that Taylor respects Gray and that Taylor still wants his voice heard and found someone to listen!

And you know, about that voice, he’s GOT ONE!

  33. lainie says:

Thanks so much for posting Part II and III at Ash’s. I logged on here to see if there was any talk about not being able to log on to GC and couldn’t believe how thoughtful you were to post a copy of your interview here. You’re the best!!!

  34. Carol says:

GC … I guess we did it to you again, didn’t we? Thanks for posting Parts II and III here.

  35. Gayle says:

got excited and posted the wrong website url and used Gayle instead of VotingTaylor. Hope this doesn’t hold me up longer in moderation as I am missing the action!

  36. Gayle says:

how do you go back to previous posts to see Part one? Am I missing it?

  37. Colleen says:

ooh this is just so exciting!!

So far we know, he drinks and swears…. wahoo typical man!

Need to say that when I type in Taylor is the boogie, up my search bar it gave me this. I thought I was in the twilight too. It’s much better than the gray on black.

  41. Chris (MacTwig) says:

Is someone copy/pasting the interview over here? I haven’t seen it?

  42. Deb says:

Oh oh, it’s getting to be around dinner time. I hope TH knows to come over here to feel the response. He’s going to laugh, when he see’s the “trouble” he’s caused.

  43. soullady says:

Oh wow, thanks for a new site in case GC really can go away and stay away!

Also, GC, I love this kind of interview with a musician. You seem a lot like me, you want the nuts and bolts and the thoughts behind the eyes. And it sounds like Taylor likes to give that kind of interview as well. Thank you.

  44. MargieC says:

Hi Ash and all, I just got on board. This is very much like home. Great job!

Couldn’t get on GC’s site – wondered if he has posted part 4.

  45. Robin4T says:

At least we can read it here. But I do want to be over there so badly. It’s home.

  46. Chris (MacTwig) says:

LOL … I just came here to tell you all that it looks like Tues/Wed nites at GC. Of course, he beat me to it to report the inevitable server crash.

  47. Luzi(Vikki) says:

Thank you Gray….yes, just like the old days…………..Sitting here sobbing cuz I can’t get into Gray’s site!!! LOL

  48. Robin4T says:

OMG–there’s Part III as soon as I comment on Part II. Awesomer and awesomer.

    I wanted to say – Here’s a Fucking SONG.

God. This man’s gonna bring us wonderful, real music. He’s gonna do it. And we’re gonna buy it. And the music business is gonna see it happening, and maybe some actual change will come from it. And I’m just so damned proud and excited to be part of it.

  53. Cahaba Lily says:

Thanks for posting Part III here Gray, I couldn’t get in to your blog to read it.

  54. Gray- this has been a great day! I couldn’t wait to get up this morning. I am so happy to find out that Taylor is the smart, nice, and talented guy in whom you and all of us have invested so much love and interest. I can’t find where I posted it before, but someone like you might help to keep him “straight” especially with all of the distractions around him. I hope that he is able to use you and this strong fan base for his career. Love you as much as Taylor!

  55. Karen says:

Gray, you were gonna clean your house and play with your kids, remember?

You can’t help yourself any more than we can!!!

  56. Robin4T says:

Thanks, GC, for posting over here. Part II is amazing. Cannot wait for Part III. Love the way you just let it flow for us. “Shootin’ the shit” is good.

Incredible to hear Taylor talk about “visual performance” being the key for him. So, so true. To me, it’s that “connection” he makes with an audience that’s indefinable, and that willl be the underpinning of his success in recording and all other aspects of the business. Taylor Hicks was born to perform to live audiences.

And his thoughts about strategy, recognizing and seizing the opportunity of AI. “American Idol was the perfect scenario for me, I don’t think it could have been scripted any better.” Wow. Ain’t it the truth.

Great stuff, GC. Thank you. And thank YOU, Taylor for sharing this with your fans through Gray.

  57. Dana says:

Gray!! You ROCK! Sorry we crashed your site!!! πŸ™‚

  58. katja says:

Yes, I want to read the comments as well…but no can do. Oh, this is SO GREAT!

That’s exactly what he has done!!!!

    Luv ya Gray πŸ™‚

  61. katja says:

Thank you Gray!!! I love you!

  62. Claire says:

Slowly is right, Katja… Nice of Gray to post here. Classy.

  63. Gray Charles says:

    And Part III

A short piece in which I decide that as much as I like and respect Taylor – now we’re seeing totally eye to eye.

The one very specific question I have for Taylor surrounds his choice of β€œTrouble” by Ray LaMontagne. I suggested to Taylor that this might have been his β€œriskiest” choice of the competition. Why did he choose to sing a song by an obscure artist in front of a pop culture audience of fifty million people?

β€œI’ve been listening to that record forever and just loving it. I consider Ray a modern day Van Morrison/Astral Weeks kind of guy. I wanted to hone in on the songwriting aspect of the modern performance because I think that Ray is just an amazing songwriter and performer.

I had fallen in love with that album and thought, what a great way to bring that music and that point of view to that many people. I wanted to say – Here’s a Fucking SONG.

I’m such a lucky person, I don’t know what you call it to be honest. My whole goal is to let people see about that music that’s real and not to let it slip. Before Idol I had a really small capacity to do that but now I can do that on a worldwide stage – it’s great!”

When I mentioned that readers of graycharles.com had nominated Ray LaMontagne as one of the top artists that fans of Taylor would also like Taylor simply laughed. β€œGood music is good music and good people know it when they hear it.”

Taylor had never heard the Nigel interview where he whined about Taylor standing on stage singing β€œTrouble, Trouble, Trouble, Worry, Worry, Worry” and saying it wasn’t β€œhappy”. When I recounted the story to him his reply was – β€œNigel and Simon don’t know crap about American music. They’ve been submersed in pop culture for so longer that they only care about what sells.”

    to be continued . . .

  64. katja says:

Yes, the Part Three was up…my page is still downloading it…very slowly…

  65. Jamie says:

Ha! That’s funny that GC just posted that. I just tried to get on his his website, and I can’t, so I thought, “Well, he must have just posted part III of the interview and the server crashed with people all trying to get on there at the same time.” Looks like it!

  66. lostintexas says:

How great is Gray to post the interview over here too. He must think you are doing a great job here Ash.

  67. katja says:

    Yeeh..it’s pretty slow isn’t it. πŸ™‚

  68. Gray Charles says:

Here is the full text of Part II if you can’t get to my site:

What does one do to prepare for an interview like this? I had my questions but mostly figured I would wing it. That general idea served me well because mostly, Taylor called up to do what we journalist types referred to professionally as β€œshoot the shit”.

I considered structuring the rest of the interview for you by topic but I thought I’d simply keep it chronological to give you a sense of the rambling nature of it all rather than try to package it up neatly.

Cell phone charged, check. Laptop charged, check? I didn’t figure I needed anything else.

At the pre-appointed time the phone rang again. Frankly, I had just about convinced myself that some sort of β€œscheduling difficulty” would rear its ugly head but luck seemed to be on my side.

My first question, β€œIs anything off limits? Anything I should stay away from at all?” Taylor, β€œnope, I’ve got no secrets”. Pretty good, pretty pretty good I’m thinking to myself.

So – β€œTaylor, I’ve watched your public persona for almost five months now and I’ve gotta say – you’re good at this. Performer, Musician, Commercial spokesperson, interview subject. It all seems rather easy. How did this happen”?

β€œI’ve been doing this all my life. People have been wondering about me for a long time. Hell man, people have been watching me for a long time, studying me and observing me, even when I was 15 or 16 years old. You get good at being observed. I hired a sideman when I was 17 years old. A guitar player named Billy Earl McClelland who was Delbert Clinton’s odl guitar player. We worked together when I was at Auburn, he told him that I was a natural entertainer and I shouldn’t worry about putting on a show. I should just be the person I was and that was entertainment enough. I had never thought about it that way until he told me that. I was able to loosen up and just by me.

When you’re being observed all the time you begin to understand what people want to see when they watch you. After fourteen or fifteen years of doing that it becomes second nature.”

I wanted to talk about the β€œenergy level” I felt at the American Idol shows and get Taylor’s perspective on it. I’ve always attributed it to the fact that you’re seeing entertainers who are on television in front of fifty million people and the producers have tried hard to create, for want of a better word, a sense of β€œlove” from the audience. I felt like it was this adulation that drove the excitement, Taylor, however, had a different take on it.

β€œThe reason that energy level is there is because they are incorporating the competition into the music. The stakes are higher than at any other concert regardless of the bands talent or energy level. I’d say its music meets college football. It’s Auburn vs. Alabama with guitars and keyboards and drums. I’m used to that type of energy and excitement and I thrive in the environment. American Idol is closer to college football than anything else.”

β€œTalk to me about strategy. Did you have a strategy in all of this or was it more of a week-to week-how do I progress sort of of thing?”

Big pause from Taylor as he prepares to blow me out of the water on this one.

β€œFor me, this competition was all about strategy. This was my opportunity, this was my shot and I wasn’t going to go into it unprepared. It was so hard for years when everyone around you is making ends meet, having kids, starting up 401k’s and I’m out there playing in bars on Tuesdays and Wednesdays’ with no one there to see you and then packing up for the weekend to hope that enough people would show up for you to afford the money to pay for the trip.

When you see an opportunity like this . . . there was no other time to think about anything but that. EVERYTHING was premeditated, songs, clothes, performance. Everything including everything I’m doing now.

American Idol was the perfect scenario for me, I don’t think it could have been scripted any better. I had been trying to get a record deal through my recorded music for so long and it wasn’t going anywhere. Visual performance was the key, when people were able to see me perform they connected and became fans. I was always in conflict. I had to try put food on the table and get a record deal at the same time. Any time I spent to stroke ego’s at a record label meant maybe I wouldn’t get enough to eat that week.”

    To be continued . . .

  69. Gray Charles says:

Just like the good old days, looks like the server is ready to crash.

    Ah, the pitfalls of Taylor.

  70. double d says:

Dedicated to the chat group…..you know who you are.

    Ok…my encore…In honor of Gray Charles…

    Ode to Post 80

    C’mon ev’rybody, can I getta WOO!….{WOO}….getta WOO!….{WOO}……getta WOO!….{WOO}

Hangin’ out at Gray Charles, been a rollercoasta,
People, Leno, City Stages, was Taylor the posta?
While the homies were talkin’ β€˜bout the Pay the Devil hat,
He snuck one in, had us wonderin’ β€œWho dat?”

Then Gray made us sad by droppin’ the bombshell,
No more GC, it’s the grand, final farewell.
The rest of the week goes by like a blur,
β€œWhat’s next?” we asked, but not very sure.

Then Saturday morning I woke to the shock,
    Post Number 80 wasn’t a crock.
Did he see T-Tizzle, am I in β€œTrouble”?
So much for limits of the AI bubble.

Gray gets the dish, from the man, hiz hizzle,
This is better than Snoop Dogg, that’s fo’ shizzle.
This life’s all about sewin’ and reapin’,
Gray finally won, all us homies are weepin’.

We still can’t believe that GC will stop,
But we’re stoked to see him go out on top.
Taylor sure knows along with the rest,
Gray Charles and his site is truly the best.

    Heeyyyy! Hhhoooo!

Gray and Taylor – LOVE YA!

Rockin news about the Taylor interview on Gray’s site! Whoa moma!

Dana, Ace’s face is on Chris’s tattoo? Huh?

I can’t seem to play the high def versions of videos on my Mac so I haven’t seen the clip. The vids DL, but then an error message pops up and they end up either blank, soundless, or imageless. Any guidance?

Ash, THANK YOU for running this refugee camp like a spa! It’s heartening to see all the music links and the familar friendly faces.

  73. Dana says:

Hey all, didn’t want to interrupt the Gray love and congrats for the interview, but I wanted to tell you one last thing from the Good Day L.A. piece. The idiot anchor asked if any of them missed Simon, to raise their hands. After a few awkward seconds, some/most did raise their hands half-heartedly to be “politically correct”/suck up I felt. Taylor did NOT. He didn’t even make an attempt, LOL. It was cute/funny. And when Taylor said “I wouldn’t say his face” regarding Ace’s face on Daughtry’s new tattoo comment, Mandisa goes “TAYLOR!” Like a mom, it was really cute because he just kept laughing and had this look like “I’m just saying…” πŸ™‚

  74. G.B. says:

Thanks, ash, for setting up this site. I am going to miss GC’s site tremendously, although I was never one of the more prolific posters.

I think the Taylor interview is the greatest. I can imagine Taylor reading all of those posts and chuckling. (or maybe wondering how he managed to ilicit such responses from the masses..)

  75. JaniceInOrlando says:

Ash – so glad you’ve opened this blog for us “lost souls”! I’m hoping all the great friendships and conversations can continue for a long time.

It’s so great that GC got the call from Taylor. I was so excited when I read it, I had to run all over & let our new sites know the news. And then to get up this a.m. and read the Pre-Interview…well, it’s just pure heaven on earth! Perhaps one day TITB will be so honored. Keep up the great work!

  76. Kathop says:

AHHHHHHHHHHH feels like home…putting feet up and feeling fine!! Which means thank you!!

  77. BeverlynBama says:

I think I have the place where I can come and still read about Taylor..good music..and just intelligent conversation

thank you for being here..and thank you to whoever let those at GrayCharles know…

how exciting that Gray was able to interview Taylor..from the first conversation up now..it seems they hit it off…I have always thought most would hit it off with Taylor..he is just so REAL!!

    looking foward to sharing here

  78. Juke says:

I can’t say it any better than Lostintexasdid.

Gray is amazing, and Ash. is the ultimate boogie.

And the people who post at GC and here in boogieland are intelligent, insightful and passionate. I came for the music. I stayed for the people.

  79. Pamela, Im betting Taylor did indeed see Gray’s “OUT” post but probably didnt read the hundreds of responses and good wishes but clearly someone did cause many many of us mentioned that the very least Taylor could do was to give Gray his due and grant him an exclusive.

  80. YoursSoully says:

So excited for the “new” spot Ash!

Happy to read about the GC-Taylor interview news too!

For some reason my posts are not showing up at GC – does that mean I’m in “moderation” too?

  81. lostintexas says:

First off Krusty. I did see your posts so no problem there.

Ash your name has been mentioned several times over there, once by me, thanking you for this great site to go to when we thought all was lost. Thanks again and you are doing an awesome job. I hope it does not wear you down like it did Gray.

As far as Gray is concerned, he has gotten what he deserved. An exclusive interview with Tay. How awesome for him and how awesome that even on a sabbatical he takes the time to let us know about this interview. I cannot say enough how much Gray’s site has meant to me and this is just icing on the cake.

Again though Ash, you have put up a great site here and this will be my new home while Gray is away. Thanks again. And just wanted to know you are also getting the recognition you deserve over at GC.

  82. Lyn says:

Taylor is both savvy and gracious. This interview is a huge “thank you,” not just to Gray Charles but also to the thousand of fans who realize it’s all about the music for him. No fatuous questions in this interview, I’ll bet!

  83. Kate McB says:

Thanks for the post, Ash. I may have missed it otherwise. Also, thanks for keeping things going. We all know how much time and effort goes into something like this and it is very much appreciated.

  84. Odayski says:

OH this is very exciting! I’m looking forward to read the interview! :]
    Anyway,just like Felidea said,

“By the way Taylor, in case you’re reading this, Will you come to Asia to perform for us ? heh:D”

I HOPE YOU KNOW THAT WE’RE ALL VOTING FOR YOU FROM ASIA.PLEASE COME.. ;D

    A BIG FAN from Indonesia.

    ps: I love this site,thanks Ash! πŸ˜€

  85. TH_Rocks says:

Ash, I can’t seem to remember the infamous post #80. Can you (or someone) recap it for me? Thanks Ash (and thanks for giving us another place to go.)

  86. krusty says:

It’s so funny, everyone is coming over here and freaking out. I’m still freaking out!! What an awesome morning, and thanks Ash for the news flash. I stopped going to GC and now this is my site, so I came here first and saw the news. It’s way cool how you guys are “working together”…:)

I’m still thinking of all the stuff Taylor may have read. And freaking more. I yi yi….

Can anyone tell me if my posts are showing on GC? For some reason I’m in moderation and have no idea why.

    Can’t wait for Part II!

  87. Soulkaren says:

I am SO PROUD for Gray! As I posted over there after reading, I think we all tend to put celebrity up on a pedestal as untouchable. Taylor is just a good man with unbelievable talent and tenacity and character and….on and on…

But here’s where Taylor is the REAL DEAL. He continues to remember those of us who invested (and, I might say looking at my airfare and hotel charges for WP in August) and CONTINUE to invest in him and in his music.

Taylor didn’t have to call Gray ~ but it was a gift back to him for all his hard work, and that gift to Gray is passing down to each on of us.

    What a WONDERUL Saturday morning!!

  88. Jarrett says:

That was a wonderful, well-earned interview, wasn’t it…I’m on edge waiting for the next installment!

Thanks for opening this new site, Ash, I look forward to frequent reading and occasional posting, just like I did on GC…kudos!

  89. aerinphil says:

just been to GC and oh my Lord! was it amazing!!!!!

β€œI just wanted to call and thank you for building an artistic, intelligent website for fans to gather in that was about the music as much as anything else. It was great,” he adds, β€œbecause it didn’t have much fliuff”.

lmao here! not much fluff indeed!

  90. Basenji says:

    THE GC POST IS UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  91. Pamela says:

it’s UP! go go!! to graycharles we go! LOL!

    (still multitasking)

  92. Pamela says:

    katja:

hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!! or the comments on his single CD cover, or the one re: his supposed commercial ad! Remember the comments regarding Head and Shoulders and him in the shower??? am laughing my butt off here!!

wonder if he saw that thread re: all of us asking him questions?

    hmmm…..

(i think i’m getting a hang of this…juggling many windows and sites…multi-tasking lol)

  93. lainie says:

What good news to wake up to this morning! Gray so deserved that call. Can you imagine an hour and a half phone call with Taylor??? That was a very classy thing of Taylor to do. I am in such a good mood today! Can’t wait to read GC’s post about it.

And, Ash, thank you so much for this site. Much appreciated!

  94. janibeth says:

Followed you over here from GC, and I’m so happy that I did. Thank you so much for taking us in!

And now, with the news about the GC/TH interview, I’m so excited I can hardly stand it!

    Many thanks.

  95. Phoebe says:

    Kharma, kharma, kharma.

  96. Frankie says:

First of all Ash, thank you so much for this site. I am not a frequent poster, but I am happy that you are continuing to provide a site where not just the man but the music is discussed.

I am so excited that Taylor called GC. He deserved it so much for all his hard work for Taylor. And last, thank you Taylor for recognizing this and giving GC a call. I cannot wait to read the interview.

  97. katja says:

How about the “How Screwed Up Are You?” -thread…
If he ever read that he must have had a good laugh! Ahahha..I know I did. πŸ˜€

  98. Pamela says:

Wonder if Taylor saw and read GC’s goodbye post and all the comments?? LOL

  99. felidea says:

OMG OMG OMG.. , i’m speechless with happiness!! I’m screaming and grabbing my PC screen like an idiot! hahaha.. TAYLOR THANK YOU!! thank you so much for being such a wonderful appreciative soul to GC and all of us. I’m so happy you called GC. Please know that you have fans all around the world who are sooo very proud of you!

I can’t wait to read your interview with GC! There is so much about your music that I’m just dying to know.

By the way Taylor, in case you’re reading this, Will you come to Asia to perform for us ? heh:D

    WOOO!!
Thanks Ash for posting this great piece of news!

    A Singapore fan.

  100. LANative says:

Good for BOTH of them; GC & TH… they needed to meet up and bask in each others’ part in this, for a bit anyway!

Love to both of them, and success to each in the way that best suits them!
