It’s spoiler time.

Fun spoiler speculation at MJ’s.

Clue #1

Taylor will sing something by a male singer who he mentioned as being a “favorite” quite a few times.
Not Ray Charles or Sam Cooke.”
.

Be sure to check the comments for more great clues.

The consensus as of right now is that Taylor will be performing Bob Seger’s “Hollywood Nights“. Hmmm…..

Phoebe: Everything you said is everything that happened with the song Hollywood Nights. And he had a guitar.

I did not read the spoiler threads, although I had seen some thread headings yesterday about Seger. It was worth it for “OMG, the obscure Beatles is —-, how perfect!” well if I told you it would be another spoiler, wouldn’t it?

  2. Deb says:

    Basenji,
On page 16 of the June 29th edition of Rolling Stone there is a good article on Johnny Cash. This is a quote from his son.

    >>While he was producing V, Rubin says he discovered at least enough material for another record, and he plans to release Americn VI in the future. He won’t reveal details, but when asked if it will be as heavy as this record, he smiles. “I think it’ll be OK” he says, “Think of V as the dark before the dawn”.>.

    nice thought

  3. Ash. says:

Basenji- I can write the “memories of Cash” post some time, somewhere. Maybe on the board or my personal blog. Maybe here if I can do it in a way where I don’t feel funny about talking about it on this blog.
If I can I will also scan the old pictures.

  4. Basenji says:

Who released these hints? Is Taylor being a tease again? I’m gonna slap that boy silly…(wait! hold on, who am I?) Everyone I highly recommend you purchase “American V” by the late Johnny Cash. Listen to this awesome album, take a chill, then go to the AI tour and write every little detail so I can live through you. Thanks for your time.

Oh and Ash, um you are going to have to write a “memories of Cash” thread I think, since you have some. Or did I miss that on GC?

  5. Lee says:

Aug. 6th in Tampa for me…so a long wait as well. I just think we’ll be hearing the song or seeing him sing it via the media somewhere so we’re bound to hear it. Anyway, he’ll probably change it up with a new spin like he does so well.

taylor’s girl: geezz did the other girls toss Kat off the bus already?

  6. Shelley says:

Chris…no hibernation…just judicious skimming of posts and messages.

I’d be foolish to think I won’t catch wind of a lot things from now until August (I’ll be looking for ya at the concert 😉 )…but I can zone out on certain things.

I know toward the end of GC, I was pretty much skimming most of those insanely long threads…I really missed a lot and had to go back and hunt for certain things later on.

So, even though I’ll be around…I think I can maintain a certain air of ignorance…like I do in the rest of my waking hours. Ha! 😛

  7. taylorsfan says:

    “night moves” seger

  8. Phoebe says:

“Hollywood Nights” would be a 100% credible TH pick….much of the audience will know the song and be able to get into immediately, it’s a fast paced getup! out of your seat thing, it plays well to “the back” of a stadium, it’s in TH’s range and the chorus allows for the whiskey tenor thing to go full throttle, and — after the AI experience — the lyrics could be considered directly personal.

  9. Deb says:

Charlize Theron Auction, Hollywood Nights?, Was the couch returned? Did I miss the cap?

  10. i don’t know where to “put” this info, but Katherine is not singing tonight. Look at all of the updates at usa.today.com “Idol Chatter”.

  11. Chris (MacTwig) says:

Shelley, see you on Aug. 9th 😉

Are you seriously going to go into hibernation and avoid all media, blogs, and message boards til then?

  12. ivecompletelylostmymind says:

Shelley…I agree with you. I’d love to be surprised when I’m there. Unfortunately, the concert here in L.A. isn’t until the end of August, and I didn’t think for a minute that everyone was going to keep secrets all summer long. So…I was kind of hoping for the “change it up in each city” way of thinking. Doesn’t sound like that will be happening either….

Oh, well…I’m still jumping out of my skin with excitement over the whole thing. I don’t know how I’ll survive such a long wait!

  13. Chris (MacTwig) says:

I think (want) it is ‘We’ve Got Tonight’ by Bob Seger from the album Stranger in Town.

Now I have to go look at the clues.

  14. Shelley says:

MK, my ticket is for Aug 8 in B’ham. I know what you mean…but I’m gonna try to avoid as much “spoilage” as possible so I can be surprised.

Even as a kid, I didn’t peek at my Christmas gifts before the morning of De. 25. 😛

  15. MK says:

My tickets aren’t until August 18 … no way I can avoid not finding out. Reading everyone else’s postsl, I will “see” the show about 30 times before Louisville, making the experience last longer.

  16. Shelley says:

Okay…does anyone bysides me (and a another poster friend of mine) WANT to be surprised by the concert?

I mean, I wonder if I’m alone in thinking that…unlike the televised show…this concert may be a little more enjoyable if it has an air of mystery going into it?

Not to pooh-pooh the spoilers…they are fun…but I was just curious to see if anyone else will try to KEEP from figuring out everything before the curtain goes up.

  17. Phoebe says:

You see now, I’m not one who is going to read through nearly 300 blog comments for clues. So excuse me while I take my marbles and stomp home, pouting all the way.

  18. Robin4T says:

The clues in the thread at MJ’s are all posted by “Scared of Ursala.” You can follow the speculation down through the thread as different clues are added. You will see that some clues don’t match up with BJ’s “The Stranger” album–leading to the “Hollywood Nights” speculation, from Seger’s “Stranger in Town” album. Love these fun puzzles!

  19. Phoebe says:

Oh, yes…to Jazz…I never found “She’s Always..” to be a sappy love song, it’s a romantic melody and on the surface registers as an appreciative love song, but the lyrics are really quite sarcastic.

Haven’t heard about the Bob Seger speculation, but he has a new album (first in 11 years) out in September, and I heard the first single “Wait for Me” in its entirety last night (Supposedly released tomorrow, though)…. Definitely a ‘matured’ Seger. My first reaction to the single was ‘perfect Taylor Hicks cover.’

  20. Phoebe says:

Using MJ’s clues, You know it’s from Billy Joel’s “The Stranger”, but is not the cut ‘The Stranger.’

So — which of the other titles would TH most likely choose to do(and like to) at an AI concert. (Not what you would personally like him to do –think about what/how he chose during the competition.)

I think he would choose “Get it Right the First Time”, with “Vienna” a distant second.

They are not long ‘story’ or ‘vignette’ songs like “Anthony’s Song” or “Italian Restaurant”.

He seems to avoid overtly romantic or traditional love songs, so that discounts “She’s Always…” and “Just the Way You Are” for me.

“Only the Good Die Young” strikes me as too popular (and too ‘pop’.)

And “Everyone has a Dream” comes too close to AI coronation song lyrics territory, in my opinion.

  21. JazzLeavesHerNumber says:

The clue about the recording having the word ‘stranger’ in the title would point, of course, to Billy Joel. Ah, so many great songs on “The Stranger” album:

    1. Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song)
    2. Stranger
    3. Just the Way You Are
    4. Scenes from an Italian Restaurant
    5. Vienna
    6. Only the Good Die Young
    7. She’s Always a Woman
    8. Get It Right the First Time
    9. Everybody Has a Dream

My favorites, and the ones I would love to hear Taylor sing, would be “She’s Always a Woman” (there’s yer sappy love song! 🙂 and strangely enough, “Only the Good Die Young”

  22. Steve's Nemesis says:

    Steve, watch it man.

  23. Ash. says:

Yes. And I’m not Gray, am I?

  24. Steve says:

Ash, Gray would posts songs as speculation continued…
