I’ve seen Angie Aparo live 4 times. Lyricly, he is one of the best out there and when he sings “live”, people listen. He has a deep soulful sound and no one I’ve ever seen can compare to his voice, specificly when he sings “Wonderland”. I actually saw him sing and Don Mclean was on the same stage and even he was very impressed.
People say the darndest things.
Curious, has anyone seen Aparo live? In the clips of him on his site, he sounds more Taylor-friendly live than produced. There’s a bit of a discussion going about him on the board, with links to his site (under Taylor Hick’s Music / New Collaborator for Tay.)
good grief I hope that http address doesn’t poke somebody in the eye
I like this quote by Taylor – it’s still all about THE MUSIC :

“I’ve been writing with some people,” he says. “I’m being set up with writing appointments by that label that will allow me to dig in and write some music. Ultimately, though, it’s not about your song. It’s about THE song.”
Too cool! Thanks for the link!
Here is the link about Aparo —

I should never post links before I’ve had caffeine. Justin Timberlake made me do it. yecccccch.
Angie Aparo is a local Atlanta/Athens musician and yes, he does play a mean harmonica! I wouldn’t be suprised if their paths have crossed before, or at least 1 or 2 degrees of seperation.
I can’t wait to see/hear what Taylor has in store for us. Angie Aparo was a new name to me (duh!) I add once again a new name to my music knowledge.
I wonder when his first single comes out. Second, I mean.
I think it’s great that Aparo is excited about this venture with Taylor. I guess he has no AI prejudice, or else, maybe he’s familiar with Taylor’s original songs! Maybe if songwriters are excited about working with Taylor, he won’t be able to keep as many surprises as he thinks
Also found this on Richmond.com:
Imagine my surprise when I discovered that Angie Aparo is a man. The irony is reminiscent of my initial encounter with Marilyn Manson, but that’s where the similarities end. Aparo could even be called the antithesis of Manson, crafting soaring and optimistic anthems about American values. The urban minstrel’s songs are rhythmic and polished rock, fueled by his socio-political observations and suing in clear and vigorous vocals. He’s kind of like Don McLean meets George Michael. His unabashedly wholesome music would be like kryptonite to the villainous Manson, but for the rest of us it’s perfectly safe.
Plus someone said he also plays a mean harmonica!
Knowing how he likes to “polish his craft”, how excited must Taylor be to co-write with veterans he could never have accessed before. He’ll soak it all up like a sponge and come out of the experience with even more songwriting skills than he has now. I’m so happy for the guy.
as if we needed another reason to be eagerly anticipating Taylor’s “first” CD…it gets more interesting everyday. quite the opposite of what I had feared might happen. yea!
I’m assuming that’s the same Angie Aparo who wrote “Cry”. A song Mandisa sang during the show.
Margaux, do you have a link to the article about Apara? The link above goes to one about Justin Timberlake. I did a search on Angie Apara and this is what I found ( it does sound promising, though).

I just found this article, about a musician named Angie Aparo (male), who “got a call to LA to help write music for Taylor Hicks”. I don’t know him, but his song “Cry” was covered by Faith Hill, who had a monster hit with it, and he sounds interesting:

And he usually doesn’t do much co-writing, he said, but he enjoys it.
“It always takes you out of your patterns as a writer and introduces you to other minds.”
It’s interesting that Aparo would say that, because there don’t seem to be many patterns to his own music. The only constant seems to be the praise he receives for the honest depth of his lyrics, his inspiring arrangements and his commitment to making music for its own sake.
“I don’t repeat myself much,” he said. ” I just view the way I do things as the way things used to be, I think.”

Nice to hear he’s still loving the road and he seems certain the album will not be out in November – interesting! I really wonder what he does have up his sleeve!
