I too hope that Taylor gets to pick his song for AI Finale. Heaven Knows would be great. Will probably be the most enthusiasm on AI Season 6 to date. Paula was glad to see Elliott and I think everyone will be glad to see Taylor (except maybe Simon?) bring some excitement to the Kodak theatre once again.

I don’t think Taylor or any of the past AI winners will ever totally sever the AI connection. Even Kelly Clarkson this far down the road is often called AI winner. Carrie has fully embraced it and thanks AI at every awards show. Saw Fantasia interviewed recently about her Broadway show and she expressed her gratitude for the opportunities Idol created in her life. If it were not for AI Taylor might still be the best kept secret in Florabama. Even he said if he did not win he would go back to “being a broke performer”. AI is a big stage and allows artists to reach millions of people who would not see them otherwise. I agree this season has been less than thrilling but I am not into Idol bashing. Like all of you I want Taylor to hit that stage one more time and blow the roof off the Kodak theater. I don’t know what restrictions they will place on his appearance but being Taylor he will make the most of it. I am excited and looking forward to the world seeing the Taylor we have followed this past year……yes, indeed.

  6. Sorry for the multiple posts–I didn’t mean to suck up so much real estate. Apologies!! I was challenged with posting last night.

I’m glad to see an open discussion going on, it is my favorite type of forum which is why I used to hang out at Gray’s so much.

I am looking forward to seeing Taylor on Idol next week, and I agree, I think he will sing Heaven Knows. And hopefully a sales boost in CDs will result.

I am sorry, but I just couldn’t get excited about seeing Elliot last night. That guy just doesn’t do it for me. But I thought that when they had the judges give comments, that it was kinda cute. He seemed to take it all in fun, as did they. But even though Simon said the song was good, he didn’t seem too sincere to me.

Funny that Elliot was on last night, Chris and Taylor are on next week, but no Kat! Did she lose her voice again I wonder?

  8. Calimari says:

I agree that the judges’ “comments” on Elliott last night was just good natured filler. The finale show will probably be a lot more rehearsed/staged, so they might not do something like that w/ Taylor. I think he’ll do “Heaven Knows.” It’s looking like it will be the next single, he nailed it on Leno, and if there is one thing Taylor knows about performing on Idol – it’s song choice. He knows what works for that audience. He can do fast or slow, and his best bet for fast is Heaven Knows, his best bet for slow is The Right Place. But he wants people to ENJOY him and get enthused about him. It’ll be Heaven Knows.
All the other idols performing just once on Idol got a huge sales boost the following week. I’m sure that will be the case here too….

TH was on Bham Fox tnis morning at the home of Fox 6 Chief
sports guy Rick Karle. Also there was Paul Finebaum, local radio
talk show host, who has had TH on his show before. His show starts
at 200 pm central time. I am not sure but TH may come on his show.
FM dial for this show is WJOX, 100.1(Paul Finebaum Radio Network).
Believe it is on internet. TH hit a couple golf balls in Karle’s yard and put on chef hat and did minor cooking at breakfaast. TH tees off at 1210 today at charity golf
tournament with Phil Niekro. TH says he will be on AI Wednesday of next week.
No word on what he will sing. I would like to see his version of “Compared to

Chicken & Waffles, I love Langston Hughes! It was so great to have you remind me of his poetry. I’m going to have to dig out those poems of his I haven’t read in ages.

I’ll be at the Staten Island, Toms River and Poukeepsie shows as well as the one in Portland, Maine. I’m not sure about the HOB in AC.

I agree how much Taylor has grown during his tour. Having seen him early on in Coral Springs and then seeing him at AC and The Beacon was a whole different experience. Then when you see the Seattle videos, you know he has really come into his own.

Let’s keep having threads like this. It’s the closest we can come to Gray’s.

  11. Marcy says:

Chicken & Waffles – So good to hear from you! Tupelo sounds outrageoous…you are going to have a blast-good people…good music…good drink….barefeet and a sundress….you can’t get any better!!!!

So far I have tickets for Toms River, Staten Island, Hagerstown and I am planning on the House of Blues in A.C. Just found out about that one…yes indeed…..I am also toying with the idea of Rhode Island if I can talk the hubby into it….Going with friends and family to the other ones….why don’t you join us for some fun at the shore? Yes, Toms River is only about twenty five minutes from me…..WOULD LOVE to have Taylor and the band over for some southern home cooking first (A girl can dream, right?)

Thanks so much for “Daybreak in Alabama”….yes, I could almost feel the dew and smell the earth….you always deliver…it’s a pleasure to read your posts.

Surprised to see this thread here. I have been going to the Boogie Board, but hadn’t seen this thread in a while–thought it had been discontinued.

I saw Elliott on Idol last night. I thought that having him stand before the judges was just a very good natured joke. Don’t think he was at all offended by it. They all said good things–Paula was beaming–she always loved him. Don’t think they will do that with Taylor, but if they did, I’m sure he would wince when it came to Simon and everyone would get a good laugh out of it.

I’m not eager to see Taylor’s ties to Idol completely severed. Every time he is invited back on the show in the future, it will be the best exposure he could get. The thing I like about Idol is the life-changing effect it can have on a struggling performer’s career. I recall Elliott in tears last year saying: This is what I have wanted to do all my life, but I just didn’t know how to make it happen. Idol does make it happen!

I think the show has been lack luster this year. The semi-finals didn’t seem the least bit exciting. I didn’t even think the judges were really into it. Quite a change from last year when the crowd response to Taylor was so deafening you couldn’t even hear the judges comments. I hope it is obvious on the finale what he brings to the show–what he brings to everything he does.

  14. taylor made 4 me says:

Taylor will be great on AI this next week!!

He really found himself as a performer in the last 10 shows on his tour IMO. If you watch the videos from early in the tour he did not have the same command of his songs, espcially in his addition of tags. In his last shows, from the Beacon on I would say…he has found HIMSELF in his music. If you compare the arrangement of his tags in Heaven Knows now with his arrangement in say an earlier version during the tours, you see a huge difference. Also, Taylor’s presence on stage is more intense than ever. He was realling feeling his music on the end of tour, and it showed in everything he did on stage from his facial expression and body language right down to the simple ways he grimmaced or grinned during songs. For Taylor, inspiration is key. Taylor’s got soul afterall, and the food for the soul is inspiration. As far as song choice is concerned, Taylor could sing anything off his album, but the AI Finale is high energy, and a slow song might not cut it for viewers in my opinion. Heaven Knows/Maze with tags (if allowed by copyright) will show how much he has grown. His pefrormance should not look like an Idol performer, but rather like the seasoned performer he is. Simply singing a song from his album verbatum will look hohum. I really enjoyed Elliot last night, beautfiul voice, and big improvement in the looks area, but could not help sitting there and thought “same performer-different night…where is the growth?” I just thought how incredible that after a year of Elliot performing, there should be more growth as an artist and more development of his style. THAT’s where Taylor has changed. Look at his videos from AI from last year, and see the SOUL now. Taylor has moved from being an Idol to being an artist, which is what he needs to portray next Wednesday. Taylor owns the stage, if he allows his true self, his beautiful and powerful soul to shine. When Taylor let’s out that aura, it fills the room, not just the stage. He doesn’t have to move around, or jump around either, he just needs to let it out…let it shine. I think all of his fans should wear sunglasses when he performs, and when the press says “…is this because he loves RAY, everyone would reply NO, it’s because Taylor has SOUL and it’s sooooooo brilliant ” lol
Taylor…if you read this blog, which again I do not think you do, then read this…
DO what you love, and let it out for all to see. Let your soul escape from its prison, and allow it to touch everyone in the room. You know that this is where you belong, so don’t be afraid to show it. Perform any song, it doesn’t matter…the vehicle is not as important as the message…YOU don’t just HAVE soul…you ARE soul. When you step on the stage, the world behind the cameras at home will be standing with you…with tears in our eyes, tears of joy of course for how proud we are of you and tears of happiness for all the wonder you bring into each of our lives. Good luck sweetie.

I think they did the comment thing to fill time–they have that extra half hour They never commented on other winners when they came back for the finale, sure they won’t with Taylor. I love JTFTW–never more so than when I heard Taylor sing it in person. He was wonderful! I went out to dinner this evening in a nice Italian restaurant here in Brooklyn, NY–they had some kind of piped in music and to my amazement and delight there was Taylor singing JTFTW. Never heard him just by chance in any public place before. I guess I really am a true fan because I felt terrific.

  16. hickifino says:

I’m glad that Elliott had supporters in the audience on tonight’s American Idol.

I’m hoping that when Taylor appears next week, the AI audience will be filled to the brim with Taylor fans screaming and cheering for Taylor, overwhelming the microphones.

I want AI and all of America to see (and hear!) how much we love Taylor!

  17. madaboutu says:

c4tay…………I was reading on another site and found out who went home a couple of hours before the show is airing here in Ca. I just missed Elliott singing but did see him. I can’t believe that Elliott had to listen to comments from the judges. What on earth did they say? No, please no JTFTW. Sorry to have that attitude. Anything else, he will be great.

  18. c4tay says:

Just watched the final three show tonight. After seeing Elliott have to stand in front of the judges again for their comments, I hope Taylor doesn’t have to suffer that humiliation again. He shouldn’t have to hear comments. He should just be allowed to sing and perform and let the crowd cheer before, during and after. He deserves to be there as the winner and to be treated as such. I felt bad for Elliott having to do that tonight. I so hope that Taylor won’t have to do JTFTW. Even though I like it and he does it well, there are better ones to do to show his talent and showmanship, IMHO.
I like to have this kind of open thread going too, for what it’s worth. It’s comfortable and more like chatting along to me. It leads to some interesting talks sometimes. Thanks for doing this.

  19. JAG says:

Hey,Chicken & Waffles it’s great to see you!

  20. Pamela says:

If they cut him loose with ANY band I have 100% faith that he will be the Taylor F. Hicks we know and love and will blow the roof off of the place. My fear is that they will confine him to some cheesy group numbers and not let Taylor be Taylor.

  21. Marcy: I am heading to Tupelo in a few weeks with a bevy of gals from around the US for a long weekend. Give me an excuse to sport a sundress and bare feet all weekend and that happy as pig in shit thing applies. Outside of that, I have no plans to attend the other shows yet, although I hear he’s playing in Tom’s River (your hood, no?) and I do love the shore.
    Hope you are well!

  22. Third time is the charm–I hope–

After his whirlwind tour, I hope that Mister Hicks has gotten back home and is chilling with his Bama peeps. In honor of the prodigal son’s return, here’s one of my favorite poems by Harlem Rennaisance poet Langston Hughes:

    Daybreak in Alabama

When I get to be a composer
I’m gonna write me some music about
    Daybreak in Alabama
And I’m gonna put the purtiest songs in it
Rising out of the ground like a swamp mist
And falling out of heaven like soft dew.
I’m gonna put some tall tall trees in it
And the scent of pine needles
And the smell of red clay after rain
    And long red necks
    And poppy colored faces
    And big brown arms
    And the field daisy eyes
Of black and white black white black people
And I’m gonna put white hands
And black hands and brown and yellow hands
And red clay earth hands in it
    Touching everybody with kind fingers
And touching each other natural as dew
In that dawn of music when I
    Get to be a composer
    And write about daybreak
    In Alabama.

  23. I’ve tried to post twice today but clearly someone doesn’t like Langston Hughes. What up?

  24. Marcy: How are you, doll? I’m not sure about the local shows yet, although I am dragging my ass down to Tupelo with a bevy of friends in a few week just because I love a good road trip. Give me an excuse to wear a sundress and go barefoot and that whole pig in shit thing applies. What shows are you going to? I think there’s a Tom’ s River show in your backyard, no? I wouldn’t mind an excuse to wander over to the shore…I do love the sea,

    On another completely different note..

After his whirlwind tour, I hope that Mister Hicks has made his way home and is chilling with his Bama peeps. In honor of the prodigal son’s return, here’s one of my favorite poems by Harlem Rennaisance poet Langston Hughes. Written in the 1930s, I think it is deeply visual and moving–you can almost smell the soil clutched in the poet’s grasp. I am particularly partial to the last four lines.

  26. Marcy says:

    Hi all,
I think Taylor will sing Heaven Knows…..he really did an outstanding job with it on Jay Leno…..that man knows how to make the most out of five minutes….jamming with Brian and then when he played that harp….OMG……I am sure he made alot of new fans after that performance……..maybe he will start out with TRP (sigh) and whip us all into a frenzy with Heaven knows and the harp……whatever he does will be great…he is one smart cookie!

I have five shows lined up for the summer including third row center at the St.George Theater in S.I. Talk about a long hot summer!!!!!!

Chicken & Waffles – will you be doing any of the N.Y/N.J. shows?

  27. juliegr says:

Greetings folks! Taylor is expected on the finale to pass the crown on the new idol. Nothing to the contrary mentioned so far but — you never know. However, Taylor himself has stated he’ll be there and Monday on the tonight show, Jay Leno also “confirmed” that Taylor will appear on the final show.

Then it is FINALLY over — Taylor can go on his way without the American Idol Albatross on his shoulder any more. YEAH!!!

  28. SummerSoulstice says:

I think that Taylor will have his band. Carrie Underwood had hers at the finale last year. I have the feeling that he will have to sing JTFTW because it’s his current single and the one Clive wanted on the CD but we’ll see.

  29. Delilah says:

Evening, all. I’ve been a bit out of the loop–is it 100% confirmed that Taylor WILL be performing on the AI finale next week?

  30. madaboutu says:

Hi all……………..welcome taylorized. There are a bunch of posters from GC, but alot that I have not seen yet either. Taylorized if you haven’t been on the boogie board yet, go there and you will see some familiar faces. It is on the right hand side, under basic info. Lots of pics and vids and all kinds of things.

Taylor may have the whole band but since he worked well with the AI band last year I don’t see a problem if he would do Heaven Knows. But if he would do TRP, I think he would have Loren and Josh like he did at the radio stations. I would like him to do a medley or at least start out with TRP and segue into Heaven Knows or Soul Thing. He knows how to work that. As for cutting all ties with AI……I doubt that ever happens for any of them for now.

  31. Pamela says:

I haven’t watched AI since the auditions when the negativity started and I don’t trust them to treat Taylor with any respect next week either. I’ll tape it ’cause I’m too chicken to watch it live. …maybe I’ll even check here first before I watch the DVR.

I did go check the Nielsen ratings though, and last Tuesday’s AI only had 25.5 million viewers. Didn’t they start the season with the highest viewers ever at around 40 million????

  32. amys says:

Hey all! Does anyone know if Taylor’s band will be with him on AI? I kind of doubt it, but then again, last year at the finale when DAUGHTRY sang with the band LIVE, they had the full band there. Taylor’s chemistry with his band is tight, so I hope they can all jam.
I’m really, really hoping for an upbeat song – Heaven Knows or the LENO version of Soul Thing. Those were really good. As much as I don’t like to put him back on the AI stage, I do remember last year when he sang for the purple jacket “Livin for the City” and the audience was on fire! Even Simon had to give in and acknowledge over the roar of the crowd that he could light a room on fire with just one song.

  33. Beverly says:

The topic of the next week will be …..What WILL Taylor sing on the finale? Let us hope there will be a fortuitous leak to put us out of our misery. Elliot sings tonight on AI. He and Taylor have great onstage chemistry. Saw them at Coyote Joe’s in Charlotte after the AI concert. But even then it was clear Taylor was in charge, always the leader of the band.

  34. taylorized says:

I am glad someone else is here I use to lerk on gray and come out every so often I bet Taylor will sing heaven knows since He sang it on Jay Leno. Taylor nailed it. I like it. I got some tickets to the houston verizen wireless concerts they 3rd row seats thats the best I have done for any concert of any artist. I got the tickets from the THHQ. So who all is here Hi Amy and madaboutu. Is there a you tube for Proud and dancing queen it took me an hour to watch my computer is slow and I dont know how to down load. but I am learning from you all.

  35. JAG says:

madaboutu…….I’m getting really excited about Taylor appearing next week on AI. I hope Taylor gets to choose the song.He seems to know what each audience wants .After next week does he cut ties with AI? I’m not sure how this works. I have a feeling he will do something that will get the audience on their feet and will register 10.10 on the Richter scale!!

  36. AmyMc says:

It’s gonna be kinda weird seeing taylor on the AI stage again…he’s so past that point in his life. It’s really gonna be strange.

I hope he sings “heaven knows”

  38. madaboutu says:

Well, here is what I have been wishing for since the tour ended and no one has posted on it? We need this open thread to keep connected and have more people drop in that were on GC. Not like we don’t have enough threads going, because we do, but these freewheeling threads used to generate alot of Taylor talk and other things too.
Right now I am wondering about the finale and what Taylor will sing. Will he be able to pick what he wants or be told? Sometime along the concert route, someone asked him that and he said “WE don’t know yet what we’ll be doing”. Was I dreaming that?

  39. AmyMc says:

Hmm…nobody has anything to say about Taylor. Now isn’t that odd? LOL

Okay, I hope Taylor is having fun in Alabama!!!
