I typically listen to things on my headphones so as to not disturb others around me. But a few nights back, I played this one for the whole room. Perfect for yet another hot summer night. Thanks so much.
That gave me chills! Thanks Ash
Wouldn’t that be four, DD?
Loooove this; let’s have more of the classics.
Three words….
Ella. is. Boss.
dayam.
Beautiful woman…beautiful voice…beautiful song.
(siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh)
What a great treat….thank you so much for this! Have to agree with HarpnSoul…….. My two fave female vocalists of all times are Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday!
no, sorry dragon of soul, i dont have it downloaded, but im sure you can find it on the fishy site, or utube.
Taytayfan62–Do you have Fantasias version? I would love to hear it.
That is one of my favorite songs, i sing it to my babies (they don’t know mama can’t carry a tune in a bucket). That was beutiful, it gave me goosebumps, thank-you for the treat!
have to say i prefer Fantasias version, but im sure thats just me.
Such a crystal clear mesmerizing voice! Thanks Ash!
Ella was one of my mom’s (born in 1929) favorites. Ella was a great lady who sang through some of the most turbulent times B’ham ever saw. Is it real or is it Memorex? Ella was the real deal. 🙂
Ella, Ella. She was the greatest. My mom worked for the Brazilian Desk at the Voice of America. She interviewed a lot of famous folks, including Ella. I’ve got an old 16 RPM record of the interview, stamped “Property of the State Department” (the VOA was part of the American propaganda arm during WW2), in my closet. My mom says Ella was really nice to her, very much the lady, and very cooperative, even though she was famous and my mom was just a little nobody. Apparently a lot of the stars were not very nice, but my mom always speaks highly of a few of them, Ella being one of her favorites (the other was Edward G. Robinson, who even took the trouble to learn a little Portuguese for the interview). Ella was so busy they had to hold the interview in the seats of the theater where she was rehearsing. You can hear other people practicing their singing faintly in the background.
aerinphil, no one can compare to Ella, but Fantasia’s version of “Summertime” is my favorite AI performance to date. Absolutely amazing!
This is a good one, Ash. Thanks!
Holy crap thanks for that!! Just what I needed to start my day. I was lucky enough to see Ella in the 1980s. What a singer.
Aaugh! No speakers – no fair!
But I have something to look forward to once I get home. Thanks in advance.
Thank you Ash – what a great treat with my liquid caffine – not a good morning person but that put a smile on my face.
Just amazing.
What a wonderful way to start the day.
Thank you for this treasure Ash! now i’m off to youtube to watch some more Ella. btw, how does Fantasia’s version compare? haven’t seen it yet.
Grew up in the 50s and 60s listening to all the great female jazz vocalists because my Dad was a jazz lover and those were the records playing in the background. Spot on diction. One of the best scat singers ever.
Oh Ella is one of my all time favs. Billie Holiday as well. Thanks Ash!
Ella was , IMO, the greatest female vocalist EVER. I saw her live in the seventies. No way to adequately describe the experience.
Beautiful. And it’s already hot enough for this song.
Thank you Ash.!
Mesmerizing.
The max for the minimum.
Thank you!
