Excoboard … gone?

April 25, 2016

This is a hard one, friends.

Excoboard (the host for many message boards, including The Boogie) is apparently non-operational. From what I have been able to dig up, excoboard was apparently sold late last year. I don’t know if that has anything to do with what is happening now or not. All I know is I logged in a week ago and everything was fine. I tried to log in Thursday evening (we’d lost yet another music icon and I wanted to check on some Boogie friends who are BIG fans) and got the 404 messages.

It appears that the main excoboard site, all hosted boards (s1, s2, s3), support forums, and archives are unreachable. No matter what I click on, I get a 404. Trying to email has resulted in MAILER-DAEMON bounced replies. Posting on excoboard’s Facebook page has turned up nothing. There are lots of angry people posting similar complaints, but no replies.

If The Boogie does return, it may be empty. Or it may look completely different. Or it may be a pay forum. That’s up to whoever took excoboards down, I suppose.

However, we may need to brace ourselves that it’s not coming back at all.

Most of the media is available here (either by following links or asking for what you need), but we can’t replace all the memories … all the shared moments, shared concerts, recaps, inside jokes, travel/concert plans, birthday lists, grief counseling, recipes, etc.

It’s a dark day on the Internet, and some seriously sick sadist behind excoboard is to blame.

Happy Valentine’s Day from the Boogie Board

February 14, 2012

On June 2, 2007 when Taylor Hicks sang at the Elvis Presley Festival in Tupelo MS, he tagged a very special song into his original song “Hold On To Your Love”. Here is your Valentine gift from the Boogie Board and Taylor Hicks, with thanks to Selma McD for the capture!

Taylor Hicks sits in with the Jamie McLean Band at GibsonGuitarNYC

January 14, 2012

On January 12, 2012, The Jamie McLean Band recorded a live CD and DVD at the Gibson Guitar Studios in NYC. Special guests included Taylor Hicks and Jason Crosby. In these historic studios, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” album was recorded, and artists like Bruce Springsteen and Lenny Kravitz have recorded here. The Jamie McLean Band consists of Jamie McLean (guitar, vocals), Ben Mars (bass) and Brian Griffin (drums). Jason Crosby sat in on several songs on the piano, keyboards and fiddle. What a treat for the Soul Patrol when Taylor Hicks sat in with harp and vocals on two songs: Jamie’s “Country Living” and the Allman’s “Midnight Rider”.

Jamie McLean entertained us with wonderful music, tours of the historic studio and showrooms and an open bar. Taylor Hicks’ vocals and harp playing thrilled all of us who were lucky to be there. Jamie indicated that the CD and DVD would be available very soon. We look forward to its debut!

Ode to Taylor Hicks

October 27, 2011

Thanks to Nadaclue for this funny Ode to Taylor Hicks

To the tune of the Beverly Hillbillies!

Come and listen to my story bout a gray haired guy.
A broke bar singer who was barely getting by.
And then one day he decided he would go
to the Vegas auditions for the Idol TV show.

American Idol, that is. Bright lights. Simon Cowell.

I turned on my TV one night several years ago
and took my seat upon the couch so i could watch the show
There was this gray haired fella, leanin’ on some bricks.
when they interviewed him, he said his name was Taylor Hicks.

Booorne by the River. Swanee River Rock. I want my voice heard.

Something made me sit right up and turn up my TV.
And when he sang I could have sworn he was singing right to me.
Now Simon didn’t like him much, said he didn’t look the part.
But he made it through to Hollywood and that was just the start.

Bring on the Ray! Golden Ticket. Harmonica walk.

I rushed to my computer, I had to find out more.
Who was this gray haired fella? where had he been before?
On the AI boards I joined some fans of this man with so much soul.
Someone came up with a name and we became the Soul Patrol!

Obsessed, that is. Woooo dust. Gray Charles.

That first week in Hollywood he chose Levon as his song,
and when it was his turn to judge, Simon admited he was wrong.
When he made the “bust your buns” speech, we all turned to mush..
and when he shouted Soul Patrol!, he was talking straight to us!

Original Recipe, that is. Backward Leans. Dorky suit.

The next week he sang Easy, and we all worried he’d go home.
So we all learned to power vote, and use more than just one phone.
Then came Taking It To The Streets, He was really on a mission.
This was the Taylor we’d been looking for ever since the audition.

Now his bunny days are over. Zodiac-Killer Eyes. Dog pound wind-up.

By now I think a lot of us had found the Gray Charles site.
And we were all nervous wrecks on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
Which song will he choose to sing? Should he dye his hair?
After they reveal the votes, will he still be there?

What the hell are Monkbots? Dial Idol. Go phones.

He sang Living For The Si-tay, and then Not Fade Away.
Ray Lamontagne’s Trouble. WTF? He does NOT look like Clay!
He was “Fearless, baby, fearless”. He did the Taylor-go Round.
He just stood still and sang a song and we all loved the sound.

Just to make everyone happy. Af-FECK-shun. Finger point.

Country Roads fell kind of flat, so let’s just skip to Queen.
The mic stand kick was definitely one of the funniest things I’ve seen.
He twirled behind the judges, he danced and had a ball.
Simon asked if he was drunk, Taylor said “Not at all”!

“Goin’ outta my mind”. Idols 07, Idols 07.

Then came “Darlin’ yoouuuuuu (finger point to the camera) send me..”
And all across the country, women squeeeed at their TVs.
The ending was amazing. The judges all were Wowed.
He listened to Rod Stewart about how to grab the crowd.

By the b@lls that is, Finger Snap. *Magic!*

Love Song week he sang “Just Once”, though he’d chosen a different song.
He was finding out that they made the rules, and so he went along.
He had played it their way long enough,he needed to find his groove.
Then we got the word, “watch out next week!” It was time to make his move.

Taylor concert, that is. Wild Cherry. George Harrison.

Play that Funky Music White Boy, was Taylor going for broke.
The chat rooms all errupted, and the Soul Patrol awoke!
Lest we forget, this was where the Boogie Board got its name.
In 90 seconds American Idol had been forever changed.

No cookie cutter pop star here. Tipping Point. Paisley shirt

Taylor had just shown everyone that he had come to play.
And the capper of the evening, was still half an hour away.
From the Beatles catalog he chose a classic song to sing.
And that’s the moment I believed he just might win this thing!

All Skate, Everybody Skate. Final Four. Off to Graceland.

Jail House Rock was so much fun, he had them dancing in the aisles.
And having no clue what the lyrics were sure didn’t cramp his style.
In The Ghetto sealed the deal in case there was any doubt.
And when the votes were tallied, the mighty Chris had just struck out.

“I forget the Hell out of some lyrics.” “As the world……turns”. Black leather.

And now it was down to just the final three.
They had their hometown visits, and got to see their family.
Elliott had us all choked up, his mom was a delight.
I’m glad she got to share his journey before she lost her fight.

The Galleria Elevator. Elliott’s parade. Kat in a helicopter.

First came Dancing in The Dark, the Paula dance was cute.
Simon blathered some insult, and The Soul Patrol hit Mute.
Randy chose You Are So Beautiful as Taylor’s second song,
and Taylor showed the whole world what we’d known all along.

Shoot. Blow. Holster. “you are a star.” “Well done Randy.”

Try a Little Tenderness was the song we had waited for.
He did it for the Soul Patrol, we could not ask for more.
He played chicken with the cameraman, and never missed a beat.
He nailed it and he knew it. This was his masterpiece.

“Good time funky Taylor”. Shaggy dress. Now that’s a love song!

Simon said the score was tied between Taylor and Kat.
Katherine took her turn, then Taylor came to bat.
The question that he asked us was, “Do I Make You Proud?”
I think he got his answer from the reaction of the crowd.

Standing “O”, that is, Power vote. Glory note.

Then came the announcement we had all hoped for.
Taylor was the winner and our Idol for evermore.
He had beaten all the odds, and taken home the prize.
And he became a star that season right before our eyes.

Soooouuuulllll Paatrooooooollll!! Silver Confetti. Woooooooooh!

Now I would like to thank you folks for kindly dropping in.
And helping me to remember all those days again.
Precious moments frozen in time that we all got to share.
It was a journey like no other, and I’m glad that we were there.

Ya’ll come back now, ya hear?

Taylor Hicks is smitten with his fans, and it shows!!

October 1, 2011

Only a week ago I attended a Taylor Hicks concert and the performance I received from him left me energized, my appetite for his music increased with his performance and I wanted, no, needed more. There is an intimacy that he creates between himself and each audience member. He takes us on a wild ride of musical tempos and emotions; he has us laughing and clapping, dancing to the music. With his next song you can hear his heart breaking in his voice and leaves us in tears. The experience is not all spiritual cliches and emotions – he gets down and dirty, moving his body with a sensual ease, grinning with the knowledge of the effect his movements have on the libidos of an audience of women. That voice: he uses it with the mildest caress, holds perfect, clear notes for an impossibly long time, and surprises and delights as he brings the growl.

The energy pours off his body and envelops the audience, who return the energy in hopes that it will prolong the experience. His harmonica can be flirtatious, unique, spontaneous – the sound that punctuates the joy he feels and then bestows upon his listeners. As he is ending the show, he begins a little dance — hands behind his back, he is all over the stage, is almost to the wings and returns, sings a bit more, dances off and then comes back and blows on his harp, often falling to his knees and bringing us to our knees as well. Too soon he is dancing his way backstage. After a quick shirt change, and a swig of water he returns to the stage to give us an encore. He gives us our money’s worth and a bit of lagniappe as well.

He gives the impression that he is totally charmed with his fans. He stands at the merchandise table until everyone has a chance to greet him, get something signed and a quick picture with him. Many will purchase items just to have an excuse for another autograph or a reason to tell him how much they have enjoyed his music. A little merchandising genius.

As I watched Taylor walk alone up the stairs I had the impression of someone who has laid himself bare, and that every ounce of his energy has been given to his fans.

Taylor Hicks Records New Song to Support Children Worldwide

July 1, 2010

On April 19, 2010 Taylor Hicks sent a message from his twitter account: “I did something really cool today!”.  And he did; Taylor recorded a new song titled SOS (“Save My Body, Save My Soul”) on that same day.

The song was written by Genevieve Rose, Ambassador, SOS Children’s Villages-USA to enhance awareness of children in need worldwide.  SOS is the world’s largest charity dedicated to orphaned and abandoned children.  The charity works for children in 132 countries all over the world.

Produced by the team at Forge Recording in Oreland, PA, the song will soon be released to the public. The following audio clip offers a brief preview of the song track, and of the Taylor Hicks delivery that songwriter Rose portrays as “beautiful” and “soulful”.

Both the songwriter and the Forge team are delighted with the finished recording, and describe Taylor Hicks as an enthusiastic contributor who was both personable and professional in studio. Mr. Hicks is excited to headline an upcoming concert on September 26th at the Kimmel Center/Verizon Hall in Philadelphia where he will perform the SOS song live.

Bulletproof:

Tweet from Taylor Hicks: “Biggest song of the year. The best hit chorus since ReHab.This is my favorite song. Blows GaGa out of the water. Meet LaRoux ‘Bulletprooof'”

I like it!  It’s a bit repetitive, but what club/dance song isn’t?  I agree that this is much better than GaGa, Taylor!

R.I.P. Jimmy Dean

June 14, 2010

Jimmy Dean passed away this weekend at the ripe old age of 81.  From The City Paper out of Nashville, TN;

Country singer, sausage king Jimmy Dean dead at 81
Monday, June 14, 2010 at 3:24am

Jimmy Dean, the Grammy winning country singer who made an even bigger name for himself as the face of the eponymous sausage company, has died at his home in Varina, Va.

The 81-year-old was watching television with his wife, Donna Dean, when he died.

He was best known musically for his signature hit “Big Bad John,” but Dean also hosted an ABC variety show “The Jimmy Dean Show,” was the first guest host on “The Tonight Show” and the first country entertainer to perform on the Las Vegas strip.

Dean was named a 2010 Country Music Hall of Fame inductee.

In 1969, he launched the Jimmy Dean Meat Company which he ran until it was sold to Sara Lee Foods in 1984. After the sale he remained the company’s chairman and TV spokesperson.

According to the Country Music Hall of Fame website, Dean was born Aug. 10, 1928 in Olton, Texas. He grew up in poverty and had only a ninth-grade education.

“He honed his performing skills in the late 1940s by entertaining his fellow servicemen at Bolling Air Force Base, near Washington, D.C. After his discharge in 1948 he assembled his band, the Texas Wildcats, and worked Washington area clubs, fire halls, and lodges,” the site read.

In addition to his wife, Dean is survived by two sons, Garry and Robert; a daughter, Connie; and two grandchildren,

Donna Dean told the Associated Press her husband’s services will be private.

The Oldies Station played Big Bad John this morning on my way to work. It’s a tune I never tire of:

And …

When I was still eating meat, Jimmy Dean was my sausage of choice.  I never ate sausage often, but when I did I loved me some Jimmy Dean!  So, because I love these ads (even if I don’t really understand them):
